The tasks of the Migration and Integration Directorate are comprised of:

  • monitoring the situation in the field of migration, international protection and integration of refugees and foreigners, identification of trends and events and taking appropriate measures;
  • supervision of the implementation of laws, regulations and general acts in the field of migration, international protection and integration of refugees and foreigners;
  • implementation of policies in the field of migration, international protection and integration of refugees and foreigners, providing initiatives and proposals for the formulation and implementation of the migration policy of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • preparation of draft laws, implementing regulations and opinions on draft laws in inter-departmental harmonisation;
  • preparation of expert bases and international and European cooperation in the field of migration, international protection and integration of refugees and foreigners;
  • cooperation with diplomatic and consular missions of foreign countries and other domestic and international institutions;
  • coordination of tasks of the working group responsible for uniform and organised cooperation in the field of migration and preparation of measures for the implementation of principles and objectives of migration policy adopted on the basis of the Aliens Act and the Resolution on the Migration Policy of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • participation in the work of expert bodies of the EU and the Council of Europe;
  • cooperation with international organisations working in the field of migration, international protection and integration of refugees and foreigners (IOM, ICMPD, SE, UNHCR, etc.);
  • coordination and guidance of the work of organisational units responsible for internal administrative affairs at administrative units in the field of migration and integration;
  • provision of organisational, personnel, financial, administrative and technical support for the operation of the Directorate and coordination of tasks in the field of information services with the Internal Administrative Affairs Directorate;
  • preparation of analytical, statistical and descriptive data and information;
  • coordination and performance of tasks as an intermediary body for the European Refugee Fund III and the European Fund for the Integration of Third-country nationals.
