Slovenian language courses

Programmes of up to 180 hours are intended for citizens of third countries  

  • who are holders of a permanent residence permit,
  • who have resided in the Republic of Slovenia over the last year based on a temporary residence permit with a validity period of at least one year,
  • and their family members with a temporary residence permit on the basis of family reunion and
  • and third-country citizens who are family members of Slovenian nationals or of citizens of the European Economic Area residing in the Republic of Slovenia based on a family member's residence permit.

If your language course attendance was least 80 %, you are entitled to take your first basic level Slovenian language test free of charge.

Holders of a temporary residence permit with a validity period of at least one year or holders of a permanent residence permit who have completed a 60-hour Slovenian language course are entitled to repeat the 120-hour programme.

The 60-hour programmes are meant for third-country citizens who reside in the Republic of Slovenia based on a temporary residence permit issued for a period of one year.

Both 60- and 180-hour Slovenian language courses programmes are free of charge, excluding travel expenses and the cost of study material s which the participants have to cover themselves.

Application for participation in the programme

You file an application for the issue of a confirmation on compliance with the conditions for participation in the Slovenian language learning programmes with the administrative unit where you registered your permanent or temporary residence. If you meet the required conditions, the administrative unit will issue the aforementioned confirmation.

You then bring the confirmation to the chosen programme provider, where you will get all the necessary information on the Slovenian language learning programme.

You cannot participate in the Slovenian language learning programmes if you have finished schooling at any level in Slovenia, or participate in a regular education programme, or have already obtained a certificate of the passed Slovenian language exam at least at the basic level.
