Visa

If you are a third-country national (all countries except EEA member states, which include EU member countries and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and you wish to enter the Republic of Slovenia or stay there for a tourist, business, personal or other purposes, you are required to obtain a visa at a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad prior to entering the Republic of Slovenia. For the same purposes, you can enter the Republic of Slovenia and stay there for a certain period of time (for no longer than three months in a six-month period, starting on the date of the first entry) only on the basis of your passport if you are a citizen of a country whose citizens are required to obtain a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia.

If you are a in possession of a visa issued by another state which is party to the Schengen Agreement, you may, during the validity period of your visa, enter the Republic of Slovenia and stay there for no longer than three months in a six-month period, which includes the combined duration of your stay in all Schengen States except for the state which issued the visa, starting on the date of the first entry into one of the Schengen States or until the expiry of visa validity if this is shorter.

If you have a valid residence permit issued by another state that is party to the Schengen Agreement, you may enter the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of this permit and a valid travel document and stay there for no longer than three months in a six-month period, which includes the combined duration of your stay in all Schengen States except for the state which issued the visa, starting on the date of the first entry into one of Schengen States or until the expiry of visa validity if this is shorter.

Certain categories of aliens (a family member of an EEA citizen and an alien who is a family member of a Slovenian citizen and intends to stay in the Republic of Slovenia for the purpose of family reunion with a EEA citizen or a Slovenian citizen if he/she is required to obtain a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia; a sports trainer, a professional sportsperson or a private sports worker who intends to conclude an employment contract or a work contract with a club or a sports organisation based in the Republic of Slovenia, etc.) may be, upon the fulfilment of the conditions stipulated by law, issued a long-stay visa.

Conditions

You are required to possess the following:

  • a valid travel document, the expiry date of which exceeds the intended period of stay in the Republic of Slovenia by at least three months;
  • travel health insurance covering urgent health care services in the Republic of Slovenia as a minimum requirement;
  • sufficient means of subsistence in a monthly amount at least equal to the basic minimal income in the Republic of Slovenia.

In this procedure, you are also required to present one of the purposes for which a long-stay visa may be issued while no grounds for the refusal of a visa are also allowed to exist.
